About Us

Our association encourages and relies on volunteers, such as yourself, to achieve our mission of serving affordable housing providers through advocacy and education. If you would like to participate in any of the committees listed below, AHMA-PSW invites you to email your volunteer request to info@ahma-psw.org for more information on how to get involved with your desired committee.

Legislative and Regulatory Affairs:

  • Liaison Committee – Interfaces with HUD, CTCAC, HCD, CalHFA, PHAs, local city agencies, etc. through regular committee meetings to share common issues or concerns. Monitors federal and state legislative and regulatory issues and provides input for comments by Association. Assists in the development of a legislative network database and encourages membership participation.

  • Tax Credit Group – Monitors activities with regard to low-income housing tax credit issues and interfaces with state agencies in California, Arizona and Nevada with responsibility for administering the program. Provides input on pending legislation and regulation; and holds regular meetings with AHMA members interested in this particular program.

  • MOR Working Group – Monitors activities with regard to Project Based Section-8 Management and Occupancy (MOR’s) issues and interfaces with Traditional Contract Administrators (TCA’s)/Performance-Based Contract Administrators (PBCA’s) in California with responsibility for administering the HUD Project Based Section-8 MOR’s. Provides input on pending legislation and regulation; and holds regular meetings with AHMA members providing a forum to interact with agencies interested in the MOR’s.

Training and Education:

  • Education and Programs – Coordinates annual schedule of training programs, including topics, dates, frequency, location, etc. Develops topics for membership meetings and assists in securing speakers and soliciting input from the membership.

L.A. Annual Seminar:

  • Curriculum – Coordinates the educational programs. Solicits input from membership and assists in coordination and promotion details. Provides on-site assistance at Seminar.

  • Events – Coordinates events for special events, Trade Show and social functions. Solicits input from membership and assists in coordination and promotion details. Works with Associate Member Advisory Committee to encourage sponsorship opportunities and Trade Show participation.

  • Industry Awards – Reviews existing awards criteria and method of submissions. Recommends additional awards programs for consideration. Encourages active participation of management agents. Oversees judging of entries and provides input on recognition ceremonies during the Annual Seminar.

Public Relations and Communication:

  • Public Relations and Communication – Reviews communications to members and develops guidelines for advertising, subject matter, distribution, etc. Works with staff and other committees to present AHMA-PSW’s image to the press and community at large. Coordinates PR activity for major programs, including Annual Seminar, scholarship and awards program, poster contest and other special events. Review, suggest and maintain the association’s on-line presence. Keep the webpage current and technology advanced.

  • Communities of Quality – Reviews existing criteria for Communities of Quality awards and method of submissions. Oversees judging of entries and provides input on recognition activities during the Annual Seminar.

AZ Annual Seminar:

  • Coordinates the educational programs. Solicits input from membership and assists in coordination and promotion details. Encourage sponsorship opportunities and Trade Show participation.

NV Annual Seminar:

  • Coordinates the educational programs. Solicits input from membership and assists in coordination and promotion details. Encourage sponsorship opportunities and Trade Show participation.

Membership:

  • Membership Committee – Coordinates membership activities for the AHMA-PSW membership, including development of membership campaigns and outreach to prospective members. Provides on-site assistance in membership booth at Annual Seminar & Trade Show. Also reviews existing services available to members and recommends new benefits and/or programs.

  • Associate Member Advisory Committee – Reviews services to associate members and recommends new benefits and/or programs. Provides speaker expertise for membership meetings and training programs. Assists in promotion of annual Trade Show and provides input on format, scheduling, etc. Develops suggestions for sponsorship opportunities and increased participation of associate members in Association activities.

Foundation Committee:

  • NAHMA Drug Free Calendar Contest – Coordinates activity for annual “AHMA Drug-Free Kid” poster calendar contest at the local level, including review of promotional material and outreach to members to encourage participation. Oversees judging for local entries and helps plan annual poster recognition event. Develops recommendations for sponsorship opportunities.

  • Scholarship Committee – Reviews existing criteria for annual scholarship program and method of submission, and recommends changes and/or additions. Coordinates promotional material and encourages active support of membership. Oversees judging activity and provides input on recognition ceremonies during the Annual Seminar. Develops recommendations for sponsorship opportunities.
