AHMA-PSW’s Affordable Housing News 09/12/19

  • HUD released over 60 of the new NSPIRE inspection standards late last week and is looking for YOUR feedback. The difference between NSPIRE and the 20-year old UPCS inspection standards can not be overstated! The NSPIRE protocol represents an exhaustive and complete transformation of what we have known about REAC inspections for the past two decades. To review these new and very detailed standards and additional NSPIRE information, you can check out  https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/public_indian_housing/reac/nspire/standards
  • On August 30 HUD released the Fair Market Rents (FMRs) for FY 2020. The new FMRs are located at https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/fmr/fmrs/FY2020_code/select_Geography.odn.
  • The California Department of Housing and Community Development shares the news of Director Ben Metcalf’s departure, effective September 6. Chief Deputy Director, Doug McCauley, will serve as Acting Director until a new Director is appointed.
  • On September 11, 2019 CA Governor Newsome signed AB 1482, effectively enacting statewide rent control and just cause only evictions statewide. Through the efforts of AHMA-PSW Advocate Ron Kingston, language was contained in the bill which exempts “Housing restricted by deed, regulatory restriction contained in an agreement with a government agency, or other recorded document as affordable housing for persons and families of very low, low, or moderate income”. This is a great victory in our fight to keep our affordable properties viable and continuing to serve our Residents. No other organization was successful in gaining any concessions in this legislation. Thanks to Ron and rest assured we will continue our advocacy efforts on behalf of our members.
