Many older adults face untreated or undertreated mental health issues (e.g., depression, anxiety, dementia, psychosis). Behavioral challenges can stem from fear, confusion, frustration, feeling threatened. De-escalation in affordable housing communities is a critical skill for Property Managers (PMs) and Resident Services Coordinators (RSCs). These professionals are often on the front lines, interacting with residents who may be experiencing high levels of stress, trauma, or mental health issues. The presenter will identify thoughtful de-escalation techniques that can help prevent conflicts from turning into violent situations.
At the conclusion of the webinar, attendees will:
- Understand the roots of human behaviors
- Define Mental Health Decompensation
- Identify common triggers
- Recognize the red flags
- Define de-escalation, explore goals
- Explore Tips for Defusing Potentially
- Identify Resources
- Activity: Case Study and Scenario
