HUD is offering individualized technical assistance (TA) for a group of highly motivated property management companies with HUD assisted properties in Los Angeles and San Diego counties in California. Selected applicants will receive individualized TA coaching, education, and concrete support from an assigned expert in implementing the Multifamily homeless preference. This TA will help companies streamline their internal processes and improve rates of success in admitting households experiencing homelessness.
HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing encourages assisted housing owners and property management companies to make their subsidized apartments available to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. To this end, we have issued a Program Notice and Toolkitthat provide step-by-step guidance to implement a homeless preference, allowing eligible homeless households to move to the top of a property’s waiting list. Owners and management agents may also collect additional management fees when implementing a homeless preference.
