There is a distrust of Health Care and Social Services by LGBT Older-Adults. As Baby-Boomers engage with health and social services sector it will be important for aging service providers to deliver respectful and culturally competent services.

Many aging service providers see no need discuss LGBT aging issues because: “They don’t want to discriminate” or “They don’t want to make people feel uncomfortable.” While well-intentioned, it leaves many LGBT older adults feeling that they must hide who they are, in order to take advantage of health, housing, and social service programs.

The goal is to prevent LGBTQ older adults from having to re-enter the closet in their golden years.

Webinar Objectives:

  • Increase awareness and empathy amongst aging service provider about the issues and needs of LGBT older adults.
  • Enhance the ability of aging service providers to continue to do the things they do very well already, to extend the same great care and services to LGBT older adults.
